1 - GET CLEAR ON WHAT YOU WANT - Before starting your job search, take the time to reflect on your strengths and weaknesses and the type of work you enjoy doing. The better you know yourself, the more likely you’ll find a new job that provides you with greater satisfaction. What do you want in a job?

2 – RESEARCH YOUR TARGET COMPANIES - Once you know what you want, it’s time to find out what the companies you’re applying for want. A great tip for finding a new job is to go through the company’s official website. It will help you get a feel of the company culture, figure out what questions they commonly ask in interviews, and even discover what salary you’re likely to be paid.

3 – GET ORGANISED - Before you start applying for jobs or interviewing with employers, take a moment to develop a system that works for you in organizing your job search. A simple spreadsheet works best for many to keep a track of the jobs you’ve applied for, where you have been invited to interview, etc.

4 - GOOD REFERAL - Keep in touch with your seniors. They can help you with your job search. They can give you information about job openings in their companies. They can also keep you informed on the happenings in the job market. Also, keep in touch with the placement cell of your college, they can refer you to companies when there are openings. The referral could also come from your relatives, friend or even acquaintances. It is always a good idea to tell people that you are looking for a job so that if something comes up they can inform you.

5 – CONSULTANCIES - There are many recruitment consultancy firms in India that short-list candidates during the initial stages of the recruitment process for companies. Please look out for a firm that specializes in recruiting. You can look for one in your city and sign up with them. They would help you look for a suitable job based on your qualifications.

6 – THE INTERNET - There are many job portals in India today that can help you with your Job Search. Some of them are naukri.com, timesjobs.com, monster.com and shine.com. You can fill out your details on an online form and you will receive Job Updates, but you will have to be active on the Internet and search for jobs yourself too.

7 – NEWSPAPER ADVERTISEMENTS - Every newspaper has a section where companies advertise the positions they are hiring for. It is good to buy 2 or 3 newspapers a day and circle out relevant job positions you are interested in and want to pursue. Sometimes companies have walk-in interviews on the same day of the ad release so look out for that.

8 – DIRECT EMPLOYER CONTACT VIAWEBSITES/ MAIL/ WALK-IN - All company websites have a Careers section where they upload job openings. You can send in your application directly to the company through the website.
